Our Australian clay soaps are a lot of fun! We were so pleased with our pink and green Australian clay facial soap that we decided to create our second “two tone” hand and body soap recipe using the same rustic pour technique. I love the contrast between the Australian Midnight Black Clay and the pale, light top layer. This is a nice hard bar with creamy lather and a smooth luxurious feel to it.

• Australian Midnight Black Clay contains cleansing properties and is used in many spa applications. Plus, it makes a really pretty soap!
• Cherry kernel oil contains natural antioxidants as well as Vitamin A and E.
• Cocoa butter is thought to reduce skin dryness and increase skin elasticity.

In addition to the lovely base oils, I blended lemongrass and lavender essential oils with a fresh bamboo fragrance oil.

One last word: Lard! Yes, lard. It’s one of the true “original” soap ingredients, back in the day when ancient Babylonians figured out that combining animal fats with alkaline ashes somehow combined to make something that cleans bodies. Lard contributes to a hard bar of soap with creamy lather as well as providing emolliency.

NOTE: For external use only. Please keep in mind black clay can stain clothes and other fabrics. Clays in general can cling to tub residue. Pregnant women should consult with their physicians before using products that contain essential oils.
